OFAB Ghana Meets Select Committees of Parliament

OFAB Ghana,

August 2017

A four-member OFAB Ghana delegation on Wednesday August 2 2017, met with ranking members of Select Committees of parliament to push for the passage of the Plant Breeders Rights Bill (PBR) which has been in Parliament of Ghana since 2013 and has faced serious opposition from several quarters.

The meeting discussed the hindrance that the Bill faced in the sixth Parliament and the miscommunication that went on, even in Parliament, leading to the then Speaker asking for more consultations to be carried out.

The meeting was also used to ask for an opportunity for OFAB and other stakeholders to be able to interact with Parliament’s Agriculture, Environment and Science select committees to explain the provisions of the Plant Breeders Bill; and to gather enough support for its passage when the Bill is reintroduced in Parliament.

The meeting ended with the understanding to have the planned larger group meeting sometime in late August 2017.
